Freshie Friday!

Hey Everyone! Welcome to the first installment of “Freshie Friday”!

On the first friday of every month, we will be introducing you to a new skater in Undead Roller Derby. We look forward to introducing you to our new friends!

This month, we’d like you to meet Kitty Killshot. Kitty has been with our league since February and has quickly mastered her skating skills, moving from our newbie skater level “Infected” up to our almost-bouting level “Damned” in record time! Don’t let this photo (taken after a particularly grueling practice) fool you. She’s a force to be reckoned with!

Aside from having impressive skating skills, she’s proven to be a dedicated skater with great practice attendance. Her hard work has definitely paid off. We all look forward to taking the track with Kitty as she works to become the newest bouting level skater in Undead Roller Derby!

How did you first discover roller derby?

It was brought up to me by a friend of mine, we were looking around at adult skate nights and came across a flyer for a Recruitment night.  I came to check it out and fell in love instantly!

What is your favorite thing about roller derby?

I love roller skating. I am not the most graceful person (my nickname growing up was bumper) and when I put on my skates I feel so comfortable.

Do you have a derby name? If yes, what is it and how did you come up with it?

My derby name is Kitty Killshot. My family and friends sent me so many ideas when I first started trying to figure one out! I went through a few names before landing on this one. There’s really nothing clever about it, just sounds bad ass.

What do your friends and family think of you playing roller derby?

Everyone has been super supportive! My husband absolutely loves it and even painted my name on my  helmet for me! I was sure my dad would say something negative about it but even he is supportive and wants to watch more bouts to learn what the heck I’m doing.

What do you do in “real” life?

In real life I am a landscape designer and horticulturist

Mom of three

What are your non-derby hobbies?

If I didn’t start Roller Derby I was going to start the journey of becoming a yoga teacher.
