Hey everyone! Welcome to the second installment of “Freshie Friday”!
This month, we are introducing you to new skater, Reina Rage, who joined the league in April. Since then, she has shown us that she is a dedicated skater, improving with strides and bounds at every practice. Watch out, derby world, because Rage is quickly becoming a strong force (literally!) on the track! We can’t wait for her to pass to her Minimum Skills test and join us on bout days!
How did you first discover roller derby?
Walking the farmer’s market in Brentwood a few years ago, a few of the girls were handing out flyers.
What is your favorite thing about roller derby?
Probably the energy. Everyone has been so helpful and supportive as I stumble and fumble on my skates; mix that in with a game that’s as fun as it is intense and competitive and you get an incredibly fierce and positive atmosphere. It’s addicting for sure.
Do you have a derby name? If yes, what is it and how did you come up with it?
Yes, it’s Reina Rage. I wanted something that sounded cool but was also similar enough to my real name. It was actually one of two names I was considering, and my friends and family had the final say via a poll on Instagram.
What do your friends and family think of you playing roller derby?
My kids say it’s “fun” and “cool”. My friends and family’s consensus was that it’s a very “Lorena” thing to do, so that was reassuring.
What do you do in “real” life?
I handle highly escalated home warranty claims.
What are your non-derby hobbies?
I enjoy writing and painting. I’m teaching myself ukulele and karaoke is always fun.
